"markdown": "According to al-Masudi, the fires that well up from the earth are *atma* (fire-vents) of the earth. Among them is the Sicilian vent known as Albarkan (Vulcano); the vent of the valley of Barhut in the land of Hadramawt and Shihr; the vent in the land of the Zabij on the Chinese sea; the vent in the land of Asak between Fars and al-Ahwaz, in the district of Arrajan, whose fire can be seen from about twenty leagues away; and the vent of al-Numan in the land of Masbadhan, where fire appears from the middle of its water, and water flowing into it does not put it out. These are among the wonders of the world. {cite:muruj-al-dhahab p.357-358}\n\nWhat is not recorded here needs a further source."
