"markdown": "These are the days and nights of Mina. They begin on the second day of the sacrifice (*thani al-nahr*) and end on the thirteenth day of Dhu al-Hijja, at the afternoon prayer. Scholars differ on the reason for their name. One group says that they used to slaughter their animals at Mina and dry the meat in the sun (*tashrik*). Others say that the people of Mecca and others would dry meat as they departed for their homelands. It was also said that they used to go out to open places of prayer called *mashariq* (singular *mashraq*), where they glorified God and prayed. Another group holds that it comes from slaughtering animals, which is *tashriq*, and they cite his prohibition of a sacrificial animal with a *mashraqa*, that is, an animal with its ears split lengthwise. {cite:muruj-al-dhahab p.510}\n\nWhat is not recorded here needs a further source."
