     "markdown": "Hisham appointed Ashras over Khurasan, and with him was a Nabataean secretary named Umayra. Ashras increased the levies of Khurasan and made light of the landed notables (dahaqin). He called the people of Transoxiana to Islam, and ordered that the jizya be removed from those who converted. They hastened to Islam, and the revenue from the kharaj fell. When he saw this, he took the jizya from those who had made peace, and they objected. [[person/thabit-qutna|Thabit Qutna al-Azdi]] was angry on their behalf, so Ashras imprisoned him, then released him on surety and sent him to face the enemy.
