     "markdown": "أسلم [[person/urwa-ibn-masud|عروة بن مسعود]] سيد ثقيف بعد مرجع النبي من الطائف ورجع يدعو قومه فرموه بالنبل حتى قتلوه {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq ص448}. وأقامت ثقيف بعد قتله أشهر ثم رأوا أن لا طاقة لهم بحرب من حولهم من العرب فاجمعوا على إرسال وفد، فأبى عبد ياليل حتى يبعثوا معه رجالاً، فصاروا ستة فيهم عثمان بن أبي العاص أحدثهم سناً {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq ص448}. ضُربت لهم قبة في ناحية المسجد ليسمعوا القرآن ويروا الناس إذا صلوا {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq ص448}. وسألوا النبي أن يكتب لهم صلحاً يأذن لهم فيه بالزنا والخمر والربا وإبقاء اللات والإعفاء من الصلاة وألا يكسروا أصنامهم بأيديهم فأبى ذلك كله {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq ص448؛ ibn-hisham-sira}. فلما لم يجدوا محيصاً استسلموا وأسلموا واشترطوا أن يتولى النبي هدم اللات فقبل وكتب لهم كتاباً وأمّر عليهم عثمان بن أبي العاص لحرصه على التفقه {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq ص448}. وكتم الوفد قومهم الحقيقة حين رجعوا وأظهروا الكآبة فأخذت ثقيف النخوة أياماً، ثم ألقى الله في قلوبهم الرعب فطلبوا ما صالحوا عليه فأسلمت ثقيف {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq ص449}."

     "markdown": "[[person/urwa-ibn-masud|Urwa ibn Mas'ud]], chief of Thaqif, became Muslim after the Prophet's return from al-Ta'if and went back calling his people; they shot him with arrows until they killed him {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p. 448}. Thaqif lasted months after his death, then saw they had no strength to fight the Arabs around them and agreed to send a delegation; Abd Yalil refused unless they sent men with him, so they became six, among them Uthman ibn Abi al-As, the youngest {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p. 448}. A tent was pitched for them at the side of the mosque so they could hear the Qur'an and see the people at prayer {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p. 448}. They asked the Prophet to write them a peace permitting adultery, wine and usury, keeping al-Lat, exemption from prayer, and that they would not break their idols with their own hands — he refused it all {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p. 448; ibn-hisham-sira}. Finding no way out, they submitted and became Muslim, stipulating that the Prophet undertake the demolition of al-Lat; he accepted, wrote them a document and set Uthman ibn Abi al-As over them for his eagerness to learn {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p. 448}. On returning the delegation hid the truth from their people and showed gloom; Thaqif took pride for some days, then God cast terror into their hearts and they asked for the terms that had been agreed — and Thaqif became Muslim {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p. 449}."
