     "markdown": "اعتمدت خطة الدفاع على سد الثلمة الوحيدة التي كان يمكن لفرسان المشركين التسلل من ورائها لعمليات الالتفاف والتطويق. ولتحقيق ذلك، انتخب النبي فصيلة من الرماة الماهرين، قوامها خمسون مقاتلاً تحت قيادة عبد الله بن جبير بن النعمان الأوسي، وأمرهم بالتمركز على تلة في الجهة الجنوبية الشرقية من المعسكر، عرفت لاحقاً بـ \"[[place/archers-hill|جبل الرماة]]\" {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p.255}.\n\nأصدر النبي أوامر صارمة لهؤلاء الرماة، قائلاً لقائدهم: \"انضح الخيل عنا بالنبل، لا يأتون من خلفنا، إن كانت لنا أو علينا فاثبت مكانك لا نؤتين من قبلك\" {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p.255}. كما شدد عليهم ألا يبرحوا مكانهم مهما كانت النتيجة، سواء انتصر المسلمون أو هُزموا، إلا بعد إرسال إشارة منه {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p.255}.\n\nأما بقية الجيش، فقد وزعهم النبي على الميمنة والميسرة:\n- **الميمنة:** جعل عليها المنذر بن عمرو {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p.256}.\n- **الميسرة:** جعل عليها [[person/zubayr-ibn-al-awwam|الزبير بن العوام]]، يسانده المقداد بن الأسود، وكانت مهمته الأساسية الصمود في وجه فرسان [[person/khalid-ibn-al-walid|خالد بن الوليد]] {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p.256}.\n\nوفي مقدمة الصفوف، وضع النبي نخبة من أشجع رجالات المسلمين. ومن أبرزهم أبو دجانة سماك بن خرشة، الذي أخذ سيف النبي بعد أن تعهد بأن يضرب به وجوه العدو حتى ينحني، وعصب رأسه بعصابته الحمراء التي كانت علامة على أنه سيقاتل حتى الموت، فتبختر بين الصفوف في مشية وصفها النبي بأنها مشية يبغضها اللّٰه إلا في مثل هذا الموطن {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p.256}."

     "markdown": "The defence rested on sealing the single gap through which the polytheist horsemen could slip for outflanking and encirclement. To that end the Prophet selected a detachment of skilled archers — fifty fighters under Abdullah ibn Jubayr ibn al-Nu'man al-Awsi — and ordered them to hold a hill southeast of the camp, later known as [[place/archers-hill|the Archers' Hill]] {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p. 255}.\n\nThe Prophet gave these archers strict orders, telling their leader: \"keep the cavalry off us with arrows so they do not come on us from behind; whether it goes for us or against us, hold your place — we must not be taken from your quarter\" {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p. 255}. He charged them not to leave their post whatever the outcome, whether the Muslims won or were defeated, until he sent them a signal {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p. 255}.\n\nThe rest of the army he divided between the right and left wings:\n- **Right wing:** under al-Mundhir ibn Amr {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p. 256}.\n- **Left wing:** under [[person/zubayr-ibn-al-awwam|al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam]], supported by al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad — its main task to stand firm against [[person/khalid-ibn-al-walid|Khalid ibn al-Walid]]'s cavalry {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p. 256}.\n\nAt the front of the ranks the Prophet placed an elite of the bravest Muslims — foremost Abu Dujana Simak ibn Kharasha, who took the Prophet's sword after pledging to strike the enemy's faces with it until it bent, binding his head with the red headband that marked he would fight to the death, strutting between the ranks in a gait the Prophet described as one God hates — except in such a spot {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p. 256}."
