     "markdown": "Thaqif tasked Abd Yalil ibn Amr with going as an envoy to the Prophet; he refused, fearing he would be dealt with on his return as Urwa ibn Mas'ud had been — shot with arrows until killed {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p. 448}. So he stipulated they send men with him; they sent two men of the confederates and three of Banu Malik, making six {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p. 448}. The delegation's head asked the Prophet to write them a treaty permitting them fornication, wine and usury, the survival of al-Lat and exemption from prayer — he refused. They took counsel, found no escape from submission, and became Muslim {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p. 448}. The delegation then hid the truth from their people for days for fear of war, until they revealed it and Thaqif became Muslim {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p. 449}."
