     "markdown": "Judge Shihab al-Din Ahmad ibn Ubba al-Maqdisi al-Athari al-Shafii was born on the twelfth of Rabi al-Awwal in the year 831. He studied and gained learning in Jerusalem and was appointed judge of Jerusalem. He was put on trial over the Qumama, the well-known church: Sultan Qaytbay punished him and the Jerusalem scholar al-Burhan al-Ansari, among others, for the demolition of the church. Some of them were brought before the sultan and one of them was beaten in his presence. He was harshly criticised for this, and the affair was regarded as unjust to him {cite:shadharat-dhahab p. 442, 424}.\n\nHe then moved to Damascus, settled there, preached and reminded people of God, and became a leading scholar. He also wrote poetry. He died in Damascus on the night of Saturday, the third of Jumada al-Ula in the year 905, and was buried at Bab al-Saghir, to the north {cite:shadharat-dhahab p. 442}."
