Ahmad Amin, in \"Duha al-Islam\", transmits the words of Abu Nuwas, who thought that Hammad was accused of heresy because of the licentiousness of his verse, until he was imprisoned in the prison for heretics and found among their leaders. {cite:duha-islam p.138-139}.\n\nHe also transmits from al-Mas'udi that Hammad was among those who translated the books of Mani and Daysan from Persian and Pahlavi into Arabic. He was among those whom al-Mansur gathered with Muhammad ibn Abi al-Abbas from among the heretics and the libertines in Basra. {cite:duha-islam p.149}.\n\nThese reports come from a secondary source and need an additional source."
