     "markdown": "Al-Nu'man ibn al-Mundhir alighted on him in secret and deposited with him his family and wealth before going to Kisra {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq}.\n\nWhen Kisra appointed Iyas ibn Qubaysa over al-Hira and ordered him to take what was with Hani', Hani' refused out of jealous honour and declared war on the king — hence the day of Dhi Qar, in which the sons of Shayban triumphed and the Persians suffered a grievous rout {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq}.\n\nAl-Mubarakpuri tells his story in the chapter on Jahiliyya morals: keeping a covenant was for them a religion, for whose sake they risked their sons' deaths and their homes' ruin; it suffices to know this from the stories of Hani' ibn Mas'ud al-Shaybani, al-Samaw'al ibn Adiya' and Hajib ibn Zurara {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq}."
