He ruled Mecca after his father in 618 AH. {cite:kamil-ibn-al-athir p. 426-427}\n\nIbn al-Athir reports that it was said he strangled his father when he learned that his father had sworn to kill him, and that he concealed his death and displayed a coffin so that people would think he had died naturally. He then summoned his brother from the fortress of Yanbu and killed him when he arrived, and before that he had ordered the killing of his paternal uncle. {cite:kamil-ibn-al-athir p. 426-427}\n\nWhen the commander of the pilgrimage, Aqbash, a mamluk of the caliph al-Nasir, fought him near Mecca, he killed him, then sent Aqbash's turban as a guarantee of safety to the pilgrims, and his companions did not plunder them. The matter weighed heavily on the caliph, and al-Hasan made his excuses and was pardoned.
