     "markdown": "Shams al-Din Ibn al-Qattan al-Misri, a Shafiʿi. His father was a cloth merchant, and so was his brother. He devoted himself to learning and excelled in it. He attended the lessons of Shaykh Baha al-Din Ibn ʿAqil and became his in-law through a daughter born to him by a slave woman. He settled in Egypt, taught, issued legal opinions and wrote books. Ibn Hajar said, \"I read under him, and he gave me a licence.\" He was skilled in the readings, Arabic and arithmetic, and he deputised in judicial matters for his brother, and he clung to that post until he died.\n\nHe died at the end of Shawwal, past the age of eighty {cite:shadharat-dhahab p. 112}."
