     "markdown": "Hisham ibn Abd al-Malik had him killed during his caliphate, after his long imprisonment with Khalid ibn Abdallah al-Qasri. It is said that the family of al-Ja'd submitted a petition to Hisham complaining of their weakness and of his long imprisonment, so Hisham wrote to Khalid about killing him. Khalid killed him on the day of Eid al-Adha and made him a substitute for the sacrifice, after he had announced it from the pulpit on Hisham's order. {cite:fihrist-ibn-al-nadim p.472-473}\n\nThis account comes from Ibn al-Nadim, with the verb \"it is said\".
