According to al-Maqqari in \"Nafh al-Tib\", he came to Iraq in 276 AH with his companion Muhammad ibn Ayman, and they found that Abu Dawud had died shortly before they arrived. Each of them then compiled a book of sunan arranged by the chapters of Abu Dawud's book. {cite:nafh-tib-maqqari p.50-51}\n\nQasim abridged his book and called the abridgement \"al-Mujtana\". He began the abridgement in Muharram 324 AH and named it after al-Hakam al-Mustansir. It contains 2,490 hadiths with full chains of transmission, in seven volumes.
