     "markdown": "مات في خلافة معاوية في الصحيح {cite:ibn-hajar-isaba p.1042}. ويروي أبو زرعة عن عبادة بن نسي أنه رأى رجلاً في خلافة عبد الملك يحدث وقيل إنه عقبة، فأنكر أحمد بن صالح ذلك وقال: مات عقبة في خلافة معاوية، وكذلك أرخه الواقدي وغيره. وأما قول خليفة بن خياط إن عامر بن عقبة بن عامر قُتل في النهروان مع علي فهو رجل آخر، وقد قال خليفة إن عقبة بن عامر مات سنة 58هـ {cite:ibn-hajar-isaba p.1042}."

Abu Umar al-Kindi said: Mu'awiya combined for him Egypt's governorship of tax and prayer; when he wished to dismiss him he wrote ordering him to raid Rhodes, and once he was under way Muslama seized the governorship — it reached Uqba and he said: \"expedition and dismissal both?\" — that was in year 47 AH {cite:ibn-hajar-isaba p. 1041}."

     "markdown": "He died in Mu'awiya's caliphate — so the sound report {cite:ibn-hajar-isaba p. 1042}. Abu Zur'a relates from Ubada ibn Nusi that he saw a man relating hadith in Abd al-Malik's caliphate said to be Uqba; Ahmad ibn Salih denied it, saying Uqba died in Mu'awiya's caliphate — so al-Waqidi and others dated it too. As for Khalifa ibn Khayyat's saying that Amir ibn Uqba ibn Amir was killed at Nahrawan with Ali — that is another man; Khalifa also said Uqba ibn Amir died in 58 AH {cite:ibn-hajar-isaba p. 1042}."
