At the end of his book \"Bughyat al-Mustafid fi Akhbar Zabid\", he writes: \"I was born in the well-guarded city of Zabid, on Thursday, the fourth of Muharram in the year 865, in my father's house. My father was away from Zabid at the end of the year in which I was born, and my eyes never saw him. I grew up in the care of my maternal grandfather, the learned, righteous and knowing Sharaf al-Din Ani, known as Isma'il ibn Muhammad ibn Mubarz.\" {cite:shadharat-dhahab p. 671}"
