     "markdown": "al-Mas'udi reports that some of those returning from the army of the people of Egypt confronted him at Hasma, while he was riding a camel coming from Medina. They asked him, and he showed a letter to Ibn Abi Sarh, governor of Egypt. In it there was an order to cut off the hand of such a man and to kill such a man, and it listed more than those in the army {cite:muruj-al-dhahab p.638}.\n\nal-Mas'udi reports that the people learned that the letter was in Marwan's hand, so they returned and besieged Uthman {cite:muruj-al-dhahab p.638}.\n\nThis is al-Mas'udi's report, and it needs an additional source."
