His mother was of the Banu Mazin ibn Mansur. al-Baladhuri reports that Khawlan in Yemen apostatised in the caliphate of Abu Bakr, and Ya'la marched against them and fought them until they submitted and acknowledged the alms-tax. It is also said that he met no war, and that they returned to Islam.
