He took Oran from the hands of Muhammad ibn Awn in the year 343 AH, and entered it by force and laid it waste. He marched with al-Khayr ibn Muhammad to Tahart, and defeated the Shi'a of Maysur the eunuch. He preached for al-Nasir on the pulpits of the Maghrib from Tahart to Tangier, and asked him for permission to wage jihad in al-Andalus, and he granted it {cite:tarikh-ibn-khaldun-ibar}."

Ibn Khaldun reports that Jawhar intended to kill him by treachery, so he caused a disturbance among the rear of the army, and in the midst of it he killed Ya'la with spears. Then Jawhar laid waste Ifkan, and the first state of the Banu Yafran came to an end {cite:tarikh-ibn-khaldun-ibar}."
