     "markdown": "Ibn al-Nadim reports that al-Ma'mun summoned him from al-Rayy after giving him safe conduct, and the theologians overwhelmed him. al-Ma'mun said to him: \"Become a Muslim, Yazdanbakht.\" He answered that al-Ma'mun was one of those who do not compel people to abandon their doctrines. al-Ma'mun said: \"Indeed\" {cite:fihrist-ibn-al-nadim p. 473}.\n\nal-Ma'mun lodged him in the district of al-Mukhram and set guards over him, for fear of the mob.
