"en": "The Sierra Leone Web page 'Sierra Leonean Heroes: 1898 Rebellion Era', carrying popular biographies of Bai Bureh, Almamy Suluku, Nyagua, Kpana Lewis and Madam Yoko. Its Suluku biography recounts his descent from Sankailay, chief of Biriwa, his rise as Kurugba (war captain) and crowning as Gbaku (king), his protection of the trade through Bumban, his manoeuvring between the British and Samori Touré's Mandinka forces, who occupied Biriwa in 1884, his secretly sending warriors and weapons to Bai Bureh in 1898 while professing loyalty to the British, and his famous reply when asked to name a successor: 'Suluku will never die'. Its Bai Bureh biography recounts his training at Gbendembu, his nickname Kebalai, his youthful service under a Soso ruler in a long jihad to establish correct Islamic practices, his crowning as ruler of Kasseh in 1886, his capture on 11 November 1898, exile to the Gold Coast, return in 1905 and death in 1908."

"reliability_note": "An unsigned popular-history page, read in full on 25 October 2026; its Suluku biography tracks the standard scholarly account, C. Magbaily Fyle, Almamy Suluku of Sierra Leone, c. 1820-1906: the dynamics of political leadership in pre-colonial Sierra Leone (Evans Brothers, 1979), whose existence and details are confirmed by its review in Africa: Journal of the International African Institute 50/4 (1980) — the monograph itself was not opened in this run, and no fact in the records cites it directly. The page's Bai Bureh biography is one of the sources behind the English Wikipedia article's account and agrees with it in outline while differing in two details the record states rather than merges: it dates Bureh's crowning at Kasseh, and his taking of the Bai Bureh title, to 1886, and it describes his father as a Loko war-chief where the English and French articles describe him as a Muslim cleric and ulama.",
