Battle of the Yarmuk

A grown-up reads you the short text; the longer one you read yourself.

The battle of Yarmuk: the great battle between the Muslims and the Byzantines on the Yarmuk river, part of the opening of Syria, with Abu Ubayda ibn al-Jarrah (may God be pleased with him) commanding the Muslims.

The battle of Yarmuk: the great battle between the Muslims and the Byzantines on the Yarmuk river, part of the opening of Syria, with Abu Ubayda ibn al-Jarrah (may God be pleased with him) commanding the Muslims. Al-Baladhuri says Heraclius gathered hosts of Byzantines and the people of Syria, the Jazira and Armenia near two hundred thousand, putting Jabala ibn al-Ayham al-Ghassani over their vanguard, while the Muslims were twenty-four thousand; they fought the hardest fight and the Byzantine hosts broke, women of the Muslims fighting that day among them Hind bint Utba, and the eyes of al-Ash'ath ibn Qays and Hashim ibn Utba were lost. The dating is disputed: al-Waqidi says 15 AH, al-Tabari's Sayf telling 13 AH, and al-Baladhuri Rajab 15 AH.
