The delegation of Banu Tamim and the boasting contest

A grown-up reads you the short text; the longer one you read yourself.

A delegation of Banu Tamim came to the Prophet ﷺ in the Year of Delegations and boasted against him with their orator Utarid and their poet al-Zibriqan; Thabit ibn Qays and Hassan ibn Thabit (may God be pleased with him) answered for the Muslims. Al-Aqra' ibn Habis judged: their orator is more eloquent and their poet the better poet — so the tribe became Muslim and the Prophet rewarded them well.

The first delegation of the Year of Delegations in Ibn Ishaq: Utarid ibn Hajib (may God be pleased with him) came with the nobles of Banu Tamim to the Prophet ﷺ — al-Aqra' ibn Habis, al-Zibriqan ibn Badr (may God be pleased with him), Amr ibn al-Ahtam and al-Hutat ibn Yazid among them. They called to him from behind his private rooms, which hurt him — Ibn Ishaq says the verse of al-Hujurat (49:4) came down about them — and he came out and they said 'we have come to boast against you'. Utarid stood and praised their kings and wealth; the Prophet had Thabit ibn Qays answer with the sermon of the chosen Prophet and the Ansar — 'we are God's helpers and His messenger's viziers' — then al-Zibriqan recited his boast and Hassan answered with 'inna al-dhawa'iba min Fahr'. Al-Aqra' judged for the Muslims: their orator more eloquent, their poet better, their voices sweeter — so the tribe became Muslim and the Prophet rewarded them well.
