A grown-up reads you the short text; the longer one you read yourself.
Rayy, an ancient city near today's Tehran, one of Persia's greatest cities in the Abbasid era, and the home of the physician Abu Bakr al-Razi. Golius says it lies on a level plain against a smooth mountain, a day's journey northwest of Qumis, and that Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him) subdued it in 13 AH per the text. Yaqut transmits that fighting between the Shafi'is and Hanafis ruined the city in 617 AH, and Golius says Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Zakariya al-Razi was born in Rayy and died there in 311 AH.
