Worship and the pillarsThe poor and the worker
Summary
Urud is the plural of ard, one sense of which is goods. Abu Ubayd defined urud as merchandise that is not measured by volume or weight and is neither an animal nor real estate 1.
Zakat on goods of trade
As a technical term, ard is all property other than the currencies, of every kind 1. Zakat is due on goods of trade when its conditions are met, on the basis of the Qur'anic call to spend from the good things one has earned and a prophetic report to pay alms from what is prepared for sale 2. Goods held for gain are, like livestock and the two precious metals, prepared for growth 2.
