Summary
Al-Hakim's hadith was transmitted from him in his own lifetime: in 389/999 Abu Umar al-Talamanaki wrote down the sciences of hadith from al-Hakim through a shaykh who had heard them from a companion of al-Hakim 1.
A high isnad
Al-Dhahabi notes this made his transmission reach posterity with a 'high' isnad — a mark of the shaykh's standing among the students of his age 1.
