Overview

Ibn Idhari in "al-Bayan al-Mughrib" says the Umayyad state in al-Andalus lasted until just after 424 AH, and that al-Mu'tadd bi'llah Hisham ibn Muhammad was the last of their caliphs at Cordoba in 424. 2

What happened

Al-Maqqari reports from the annals of Cordoba that its people put al-Mu'tadd Hisham forward during the fitna, but he lasted only a short while before his affairs fell into disorder and he was deposed and snatched from power; the Umayyad state ended, Abu'l-Hazm ibn Jahwar took Cordoba, and the kings of al-Andalus dropped the call of the Marwanid caliphate as the taifa states rose. 2

Ibn Idhari says the Umayyad state stood in al-Andalus for nearly three hundred years, and that with its fall al-Andalus fell and the splendour of the world went with it. 3
