Overview

Al-Mas'udi, in "The Meadows of Gold", relates that Mardawij ibn Ziyar sent his commander Ibn Alan al-Qazwini to Dinawar, and he entered it by the sword in 319 AH. 1

Events

On the first day seventeen thousand of its people were killed, according to the lower estimate, and twenty-five thousand according to the higher. A man called Ibn Mashad came out to him with a copy of the Qur'an and asked him to lift the sword. He ordered the copy taken and struck him in the face with it, then ordered him slaughtered. He took captives and gave the property and the blood over to his men. 1
