Summary
In 629 AH the Tatars, after the death of Jalal al-Din, wreaked havoc and reached Shahrazur. Al-Mustansir bi-Llah spent on the armies and equipped them under Qastam al-Nasiri, and they joined the lord of Arbil, Muzaffar al-Din Kukburi, and the Tatars retreated 1.
The death of Jalal al-Din Khwarazm-shah, whom the sources describe as a "barrier between the Muslims and the unbelievers," was the signal for new Tatar tours through al-Jazira and the mountain lands. This raid, however, was met for the first time by a combined force of the Abbasid caliphate's armies and the troops of the lord of Arbil. The Tatar withdrawal from Shahrazur was one of the few times they turned back from a target in those years, and it was a prelude to the standing of al-Mustansir's army against them later 1.
