    Summary

Abdullah ibn Muhammad al-Amin al-Shanqiti is a scholar of tafsir based in Madinah. He is a son of Muhammad al-Amin al-Shinqiti, the Mauritanian-born author of the Qur'an commentary 'Adwa al-Bayan'; the biography of the father published by Al-Daleel Online quotes Abdullah relating that his father used to forbid them sour foods, because they affect memorisation. 1

He headed the Department of Tafsir at the Islamic University of Madinah. 2

No source consulted publishes a birth date for him, so no birth date is recorded here. 1 2 3

    Teaching

The Egyptian preacher Muhammad Husayn Yaqub lists him among his teachers in his biography, describing him as head of the Department of Tafsir at the Islamic University of Madinah, and records that he accompanied him for a week on one journey and benefited greatly from him, above all for his soundness of heart towards all Muslims. 2

His tafsir lessons circulate among students: a student's notes of his explanation of Surat Luqman, posted on the Alukah Majlis forum, record his remarks on the sura's counsels — on tawhid, kindness to parents, prayer and patience — and his judgements on works of tafsir and hadith terminology. 3

    Positions and criticism

This section sets out what the sources report; it is not a verdict by the museum.

The sources present him as a university teacher of tafsir in Madinah known through his father's biography and through students who attended or accompanied him. 1 2 No independent critical coverage of him was found in the sources consulted, and the museum records only what the registered sources establish. 3
