Overview
Abu Talib al-Karkhi, companion of Ibn al-Khal, named al-Mubarak b. al-Mubarak — shaykh of Baghdad's Shafi'is in his time, master of the attributed hand, and tutor of al-Nasir li-Din Allah's children; he taught at the Nizamiyya after Abu'l-Khayr al-Qazwini, a company read fiqh under him, he transmitted from Ibn al-Husayn — a lord of learning, works, devotion and scruple. 1
His stages
His father was a singer, so the son first busied himself with the lute until they testified he was in Ma'bad's tier; then he scorned that and mastered calligraphy until some said he out-wrote Ibn al-Bawwab; then he took to fiqh and reached the limit of learning. He died in 585. 1
