    Summary

Achmad Zaky Syaifudin (born 24 August 1986) is an Indonesian internet entrepreneur and investor, a co-founder of the e-commerce company Bukalapak and its chief executive until he resigned in January 2020; he then started Init6, a venture fund supporting early-stage startups 1 2.

    Life

Zaky was born in Sragen Regency, Central Java, on 24 August 1986, to parents who both worked as junior-high-school teachers 2 3. He began learning computer and programming sciences in 1997 through programming books and a computer given by his uncle, represented his school at the National Science Olympiad in computer science, and won the competition while attending Public High School 1 in Solo 1 2. He studied informatics engineering at the Bandung Institute of Technology, earned a perfect GPA in his first year and graduated with honours, and in 2008 took a short exchange scholarship to Oregon State University 2. In October 2010 he married Diajeng Lestari, the founder of the fashion company HijUp; they have one child 1.

    Work

Zaky began in business as a student, building quick-count election software for a television station for IDR 1.5 million and trying a noodle-making business that failed 1. After graduating he formed the technology consulting firm Suitmedia, inside which the Bukalapak marketplace was born in 2010 as an internal project; he launched it with his institute colleagues Muhammad Fajrin Rasyid and Nugroho Herucahyono to help micro-businesses and traditional kiosks compete online, and led Bukalapak as CEO until resigning in January 2020 2 1. After his departure he founded the early-stage venture fund Init6 with Bukalapak's former chief technology officer Nugroho Herucahyono 1. In July 2016 he received the Satyalancana Wira Karya award from President Joko Widodo for his exemplary contributions, and he was named EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2017 in the Technology & Digital category 1 2. No text read for this record names a faith for Zaky himself — the articles are silent and Wikidata carries no religion statement for him, and his wife's modest-fashion company is a family business, not an attestation — so his faith is recorded as unknown 1 2 3.
