Mu'ayyad al-Mulk al-Hasan al-Rakji

مؤيد الملك أبو علي الحسن الركجي

c. 1037 CE · 429 AH

Vizier of Musharrif al-Dawla for two years, then dismissed yet kept great prestige. Seeing Wasit lacked a bimaristan he chose a site and had the Mu'ayyadi bimaristan built and opened in 413, with medicines, storers, physicians and endowments. He recovered Fakhr al-Mulk's buried monies gently rather than by torture, cracking the cryptic ledger entries, and it was on his advice — 'occupy yourself with the history of virtuous men' — that Ibn al-Sabi' began his famous Dhayl on Sinan's history. Died 429 near eighty 1.

Overview

Al-Hasan al-Rakji; vizier to Musharrif al-Dawla Abu 'Ali ibn Baha' al-Dawla for two years, then dismissed — in his time out of office he was of great standing; when it was said that Wasit, among the greatest cities, had no hospital, he chose a site, made it a maristan, gathered a rich endowment, opened it in the year 13, stocked it with medicines, appointed keepers and physicians and endowed it. 2

His doings

He raised Fakhr al-Mulk's confiscated monies without a blow, extracting them gently — among them he decoded the ciphered entries of the treasury register: "the long-bearded Cossack" who held twenty thousand dinars, and "Basra with its funnel" holding thirty thousand; he advised Ibn al-Sa'ibi to work on "a history of the good people," which occasioned Ibn al-Sa'ib's continuation of Sinan's history; he died in 429, near eighty. 2

بهاء الدولة أبو نصر بن عضد الدولة

Abu Nasr ibn Adud al-Dawla; on Sharaf al-Dawla's death al-Ta'i' came condoling, then invested him — seven robes, black turban, collar, bracelets, sword-bearers before him — as Baha' al-Dawla wa-Diya' al-Milla. In 381 his men dragged al-Ta'i' from the throne, wrapped him in a cloak and made him depose himself for al-Qadir.
