Overview

Al-Qasim ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr al-Siddiq, jurist of Medina and among the best men of his age; he kept close to his aunt 'A'isha in fatwa and sat with Ibn 'Abbas, Abu Hurayra (may God be pleased with him) and Ibn 'Umar. Ibn Shawdhab reported Yahya ibn Sa'id saying: we knew no one in Medina we would prefer over al-Qasim. 1

Standing

Contemporaries held him the most learned of men in the Sunna, so much that it was said a man was not counted a man until he knew the Sunna; Ibn 'Uyayna named the three most learned in 'A'isha's hadith as al-Qasim, 'Urwa and 'Umra. He was among those who transmitted hadith letter for letter, with Ibn Sirin and Raja' ibn Haywa. He died around 110 AH leaving a hundred thousand, lawful wealth, as Ayyub noted. 1
