Early life and education
Ferdowsi was born in Overland Park, Kansas, on 7 October 1985, the son of Iranian immigrants Gholam Ferdowsi, a mortgage broker from Tabriz, and Tahmineh "Tammy" Faridazar, who had settled in the United States after the 1979 Iranian Revolution and married in 1984; the Persian article adds that the family originates from the village of Bavil in East Azerbaijan. He attended Blue Valley Northwest High School, graduating first in his class in 2004, and went on to study electrical engineering and computer science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, leaving in his last semester to build Dropbox. 1 2
Career
Ferdowsi launched Dropbox in June 2007 with his business partner Drew Houston at MIT; that September the company moved to San Francisco and raised venture capital from Sequoia Capital, Accel and Y Combinator. He served as the company's chief technology officer from its founding until October 2016, and in March 2018 Dropbox's initial public offering valued the company at around US$9.2 billion. He left Dropbox in 2020. 1 3
Religion
His faith is recorded as unknown. No article text names any affiliation for him: the English, Persian and Arabic texts, his English categories and every infobox read are silent on religion. Wikidata alone carries a religion value for him — Shia Islam in general — unqualified and unsupported by any text. A single structured-data value is one source family and does not meet the two-independent-sources standard; and since no text attests "Shia" of him, the Shia-mapping rule cannot supply a branch value either. His parents' Iranian origin is family background, not an attestation, so no value is recorded. 4 1 2 3
