Summary
Hamza Choudhury is an English defensive midfielder of Bangladeshi and Grenadian descent, born in Loughborough on 1 October 1997. A product of the Leicester City academy, he made over a hundred senior appearances for the club and won the FA Cup in 2021 and the EFL Championship in 2024, before joining Sheffield United. An England under-21 international, he switched to Bangladesh in 2025. 1 2 3 4
Career
Choudhury joined the Leicester City academy at the age of seven and signed professionally in 2015. Two loan spells at Burton Albion gave him his first senior football, and he made his Leicester debut in September 2017 and his Premier League debut that November. He won the FA Cup with Leicester in 2021 — after the final he and his teammate Wesley Fofana celebrated draped in the flag of Palestine — and the EFL Championship title in 2024. His Leicester years also included a season on loan at Watford in 2022–23. 1 2 3 4
In January 2025 he joined Sheffield United on loan and made the move permanent in 2026. Born to a Grenadian father and a Bangladeshi mother whose family comes from Habiganj, he played for England at under-21 level, then took a Bangladeshi passport in late 2024 and chose to represent Bangladesh, making his debut in 2025 and scoring on his home debut against Bhutan that June. 1 2 3 4
On the record
The English article's personal-life section calls Choudhury a Sunni Muslim, and records that he attended evening madrasa in his youth and recites passages of the Qur'an and supplications before matches. The sentence rests on a single 2019 web source. Wikidata gives Sunni Islam as a single structured-data value, and the Arabic and Urdu articles say nothing about his religion in their texts, though their categories file him among Sunni Muslims. The museum's bar is two independent sources naming the school: one article's statement, echoed by a structured value in the same Wikipedia ecosystem and by category filings, is one source family, not two. His faith is therefore recorded as unknown, with the evidence set out here in full. 1 2 3 4
