    Summary

Hazaa Al-Balushi (Hazza bin Abdullah bin Salem Al Balushi) is an Omani Qur'an reciter, born on 10 April 1995 in Liwa, in Oman's Al Batinah North Governorate. He memorised the Qur'an as a child, graduated in economics and political science from Sultan Qaboos University, and became one of the best-known reciters of the Gulf through recordings that spread from 2013 onwards. He has led taraweeh prayers in several countries, and in March 2025 he received a certificate from the Sharjah Holy Qur'an Academy for completing the Qur'an in the various readings. 1 2 3

    Early life and memorisation

He was born in Liwa, a wilaya of Al Batinah North Governorate, and his father played a role in discovering his abilities as a reciter. He began memorising the Qur'an as a young child at the mosque of his area and completed it in his early teens — the Arabic article says he began at six and finished at fourteen; the English article says he began at seven and completed at thirteen. He then went to Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia in 2012 and 2013 to perfect his recitation. 1 2

    Education

He began his studies at Sultan Qaboos University in economic and political sciences and graduated with a degree in economics and political science. The Arabic article adds that he is currently studying Sharia — jurisprudence (fiqh) and its principles — at the University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. 1 2

    Career

His recitation first spread in 2013, when a friend published a recording of his recitation and it drew wide attention. In 2014 he was hosted in Britain, Indonesia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Qatar during Ramadan to lead the taraweeh and qiyam prayers, at the invitation of ministries and Islamic affairs bodies in those countries. He has also chaired the jury of international Qur'an competitions in Ingushetia and in Saratov, in the Russian Federation, and has taken part in the Light upon Light conference in Europe. 2

Among the mosques where he has led prayers, the Arabic article lists the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Solo, Indonesia, mosques in Kuwait, Bahrain and Ajman, the Education City Mosque in Qatar, and mosques in Al Ain and Ras Al Khaimah; he has also led prayers outside Ramadan in Russia, Egypt, Sudan, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. 2

In March 2025 he received a certificate for completing the Qur'an in the various Qur'anic readings from the Sharjah Holy Qur'an Academy, at a graduation ceremony in Sharjah; he said he had received an ijaza with an uninterrupted chain of transmission. 1
