Summary
Hazem Shouman is an Egyptian preacher and physician, born in the city of Mansoura in the Dakahlia Governorate on 10 December 1974. 1 2
His audience — young people above all — came to know him through his lessons at the Al-Sallab Mosque in Mansoura, then through his programmes and series on satellite channels; he has written several devotional books addressed to the young. 1
Upbringing and education
Beginnings and career
He began his lessons at the Al-Sallab Mosque in Mansoura, where thousands of young people attended, then moved to television, presenting programmes on channels including Al-Rahma, Al-Nas, Al-Khalijia and Amjad. 1
Programmes and works
His best-known work is the programme «Ala Fein Ya Shabab» ("Where To, Youth?"), shown on satellite channels, and lesson series including «Ala Fein Ya Shabab?», «Why Muhammad?» and «Knights of Al-Aqsa». 1
Positions and criticism
This section should be read as a presentation of differing positions reported from the sources, not as the museum's verdict on them.
In April 2012 Hazem Shouman supported the candidate Hazem Salah Abu Ismail in his election campaign, joined those gathered in Tahrir Square at the time, and called for supporting the 2012 Constitution of Egypt. 1
In February 2020 the Egyptian Ministry of Awqaf announced that Hazem Shouman was banned from preaching from pulpits or giving lessons in mosques. 1
Books
He has written several books and took part in the 51st Cairo International Book Fair in January 2020. His books, as the article lists them, include «Ana Mesh Fahimny» ("I Don't Understand Myself"), «Ayyam La Tu'awwad» ("Irreplaceable Days"), «Ibda' min Gadid» ("Start Again"), «Hal Li min Tawba» ("Is There Repentance for Me?"), «Al-Banat Hayganninuni!!» ("Girls Are Driving Me Mad!!"), «Mafatih Khaza'in Allah» ("Keys to God's Treasuries") and «Qarrartu an Akhla' al-Hijab» ("I Decided to Take Off the Hijab"). 1
Impact and audience
Wikidata records that his YouTube channel had about 2,310,000 subscribers on 28 January 2024; platform figures change constantly, so the museum records them only with their date. 2
