    Early life and career

Jilani was born and raised in Lahore; the English article and Wikidata give her birth on 19 December 1953, while the Arabic and Urdu articles give the year only. She began practising law in 1979, joining the chamber of barrister Ijaz Hussain Batalvi while Pakistan was under martial law. In February 1980 she and Asma Jahangir co-founded AGHS Legal Aid Cell in Lahore, Pakistan's first all-female legal aid practice, whose work grew from legal aid for women into legal education, research, counselling and protection from exploitation; in 1986 she founded Pakistan's first legal aid centre, and in 1991 the Dastak women's shelter. (The Urdu article dates the founding of AGHS and the Women's Action Forum to 1987; the English article's dates are followed here.) 1 2

    International work

Jilani served from 2000 to 2008 as the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative on the situation of human rights defenders, and sat on the international commission of inquiry on Darfur in 2004 and on the UN fact-finding mission on the Gaza conflict. She is a member of The Elders, the group of global leaders founded by Nelson Mandela, and has been recognised among the world's leading human-rights defenders; like her sister, she has worked under threats arising from her defence of women and minorities. 1 3

    Religion

Her faith is recorded as unknown, because no source names an affiliation for her. The English article makes no statement of her religion and carries no religion infobox field; the Arabic article's person infobox has a religion field which stands empty; the Urdu article is silent; and Wikidata carries no religion value at all. There is no religion content to record — the absence is complete. 1 3 2 4
