Summary
Ibn al-Raffa', shaykh of shaykhs; his father was qadi of Hama, and he was born at Damascus in 686 — exceedingly intelligent; his father travelled with him and he heard Ibn 'Urafa's Juz' from Ibn Kulayb and the entire Musnad from Abu'l-Majd. 1
Character and death
He had many memorisations, famed virtues, sanctity and majesty with a gentle side — honouring those he knew and those he did not; he died at Hama, buried beyond it on the eighth of Ramadan in a plot he had prepared, and he has poetry. 1
