    Life

Al Mubarak was born in Abu Dhabi; the English article's text and infobox give 27 January 1976, the Arabic article gives 1 December 1975, and Wikidata gives 1 January 1976, and all three readings are preserved in his record, the English reading being followed. 1 3 2 He comes from a family of diplomats and of religious and judicial scholars: his father, Khalifa Ahmad Mubarak, a former UAE ambassador to France, was assassinated in Paris in 1984, and his grandfather Ahmed Abdulaziz Hamad Al-Mubarak was a judge and chairman of the Shari'a Judicial Department in Abu Dhabi, while his great-grandfather Abdulaziz Hamad Al-Mubarak, a judicial scholar, established the country's first school in Dubai. 1 He attended the American Community School of Abu Dhabi and took a degree in economics and finance from Tufts University in 1997. 1 He is married to Nadia Sehweil, and they have three children. 1

    Work

Al Mubarak worked for the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and the UAE Offsets Group and was executive vice-president for corporate affairs at Dolphin Energy before leading the state investment company Mubadala Development; in 2017, after its merger with the International Petroleum Investment Company, he became managing director and chief executive officer of Mubadala Investment Company, which by March 2020 managed a portfolio of 230 billion dollars. 1 In the Abu Dhabi government he became a member of the Executive Council and founding chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority in the 2006 restructuring, and in 2018 he was appointed the UAE President's first Special Envoy to China. 1 He chairs the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank and Emirates Global Aluminium, and sits on the board of ADNOC. 1 In sport, he was appointed chairman of Manchester City in September 2008 when Abu Dhabi United Group bought the club, and has been founding chairman of City Football Group since 2013; under his chairmanship City won the FA Cup in 2011 and the Premier League title in 2012. 1 His tenure has also been marked by financial-fair-play controversies, presented here as the article presents them: reports by Der Spiegel based on leaked documents alleged that the club's Emirati owners circumvented UEFA's rules through sponsorship payments, UEFA banned the club from the Champions League for two years in February 2020 before the Court of Arbitration for Sport lifted the ban that July and reduced the fine, and in September 2026 an independent panel found Manchester City guilty of 114 charges of financial misreporting and non-cooperation, a verdict the club has begun to appeal. 1 He was made an honorary Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2013. 1
