Early life and formation
He is the seventh son of Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and the paternal half-brother of three earlier emirs — Jaber, Sabah and Nawaf. He was educated at the Al Mubarakiya School and at Hendon Police College in the United Kingdom, graduating in 1960.{cite:source/wikipedia-mishal-al-ahmad-al-jaber-al-sabah-en}{cite:source/wikidata-mishal-al-ahmad-al-jaber-al-sabah}
The security career
He joined the Ministry of Interior and rose to head its intelligence and state security service from 1967 to 1980, becoming the first director of Kuwait State Security. From 13 April 2004 he served, at ministerial rank, as deputy chief of the Kuwait National Guard — its de facto head — until 2020.{cite:source/wikipedia-mishal-al-ahmad-al-jaber-al-sabah-en}
Crown prince and accession
Emir Nawaf nominated him crown prince in 2020; at eighty he was the oldest crown prince in the world. On Nawaf's death on 16 December 2023 he became Emir at the age of eighty-three.{cite:source/wikipedia-mishal-al-ahmad-al-jaber-al-sabah-en}
Reign
On 15 February 2024 he dissolved the National Assembly, and on 10 May 2024 he dissolved parliament again and suspended selected articles of the constitution for a period of up to four years. In June 2024 he appointed his nephew Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah crown prince, a choice made without the parliamentary vetting the constitution envisages.{cite:source/wikipedia-mishal-al-ahmad-al-jaber-al-sabah-en}{cite:source/wikipedia-mishal-al-ahmad-al-jaber-al-sabah-ar}
On his religious affiliation
The English article's infobox gives his religion as Sunni Islam and the Arabic article's infobox gives Islam generically; the Urdu article files him by category among Kuwaiti Sunni Muslims, and his Wikidata item carries both Islam and Sunni Islam as religion values on the one item. No text in any of the three articles states his personal affiliation. This entry's data record sets out the attestation in full and explains why his school is not classified here: an infobox, its structured echo and a category filing are one source family, not two independent sources.{cite:source/wikipedia-mishal-al-ahmad-al-jaber-al-sabah-en}{cite:source/wikipedia-mishal-al-ahmad-al-jaber-al-sabah-ar}{cite:source/wikipedia-mishal-al-ahmad-al-jaber-al-sabah-ur}{cite:source/wikidata-mishal-al-ahmad-al-jaber-al-sabah}
Personal life
The English article's infobox records twelve children.{cite:source/wikipedia-mishal-al-ahmad-al-jaber-al-sabah-en}
