    Summary

Navaid Aziz is a Canadian imam and lecturer based in Calgary. 1 Raised in Montreal and educated at the Islamic University of Madinah, he taught at AlMaghrib Institute, directs religious and social services for the Islamic Information Society of Calgary, and in 2015 became the Calgary Police Service's first Muslim chaplain. 2 His own lecture channel is carried on Muslim Central.

    Life and work

Aziz was raised in Montreal, Quebec, where he completed a diplome d'etudes collegiales in social sciences at Champlain College; at the Islamic University of Madinah he completed an associate degree in Arabic and a bachelor's in Islamic Law, specialising in fiqh and usul al-fiqh. 2 1 Returning to Canada in 2008, he began teaching for AlMaghrib Institute — later its Director of Public Relations — volunteered as Islamic editor of Little Explorers Magazine, and built a reputation as a family and youth counsellor and public speaker across five continents. 2 In 2012 he moved to Calgary to become Director of Religious and Social Services for the Islamic Information Society of Calgary, extending his youth work into programmes countering criminal radicalisation, including civic engagement, shelter volunteering, cleanups and blood drives. 2 In 2015 he became the first Muslim chaplain with the Calgary Police Service and consulted on its ReDirect programme; academic researchers interviewing Canadian deradicalisation practitioners name him among the imams doing that work across Canada. 2 3 In 2018 he joined the Organization for the Prevention of Violence in Alberta as a programming and intervention coordinator. 2

    Positions and faith

This section should be read as a presentation of what the sources give, not as a verdict of the museum.

The sources document Aziz's education and offices, not an affiliation: his degree is from the Islamic University of Madinah, whose orientation describes the institution rather than naming a school for the man, and neither his institute's page, his own channel biography, nor the academic study names a legal school for him personally. 1 2 3 No faith value is therefore recorded for him.
