Summary
Paul Casanova, the French orientalist who taught Arabic language and literature at the Collège de France and then at the Egyptian University, authored Muhammad and the End of the World. 1
His thesis as presented by Ghallab
Ghallab attributes to him in this book the thesis that the Qur'an was altered after the Prophet ﷺ's death and that the Prophet believed the Hour was near; Ghallab lays out his arguments and discusses them chapter by chapter 2, and where Casanova draws on Ibn Khaldun's Muqaddima on the imamate, Ghallab comments on it 3 — this describes Ghallab's presentation of the book's thesis, not a judgement on the man.
