Summary
Background
In an interview published in January 2021 she described herself as a revert Muslim of African Caribbean heritage — her father Ghanaian and her mother from Barbados — born and raised in London, who became Muslim at nineteen. She is an artist who has worked as a painter, decorator and tailor, and practises as a hijama therapist; she has two children and has been a single mother for many years. 2
The Niqabi Diaries
She began wearing the niqab in 2009. The project began in Ramadan 2019, when her local Islamic centre invited her to host a radio show and, as the only niqabi sister taking part, she decided to invite other niqab-wearing women to share their experiences; the one interview she recorded at home that month, with Na'ima Bint Robert, became the podcast's first episode. She has since interviewed women from around the world, and introduces herself by name in episodes. She is also the author of How to Be a Single Muslim Mum, a book dedicated to single Muslim mothers. 2 1
