    Caliphate

Mountakha became caliph-general of the Mourides in January 2018, on the death of the seventh caliph, Serigne Sidy Mokhtar Mbacké, and remains in office. In January 2022 he declared his encouragement of all legal steps against homosexuality in Senegal. In August 2023 he received a delegation of the opposition coalition and called on Ousmane Sonko, then on hunger strike in protest at his convictions, to end the strike; Sonko suspended it in September at the caliph's request. Ahead of the 2024 presidential election he forbade any candidate to campaign at Touba and announced he would receive none of them.12

Both articles describe him by office and descent: the English article names him the eighth and current caliph and the founder's oldest grandson, the French article names him khalifa-general, son of Bassirou Mbacké and grandson of Ahmadou Bamba, and Wikidata carries no religion value for him; no source states his own initiation or affiliation.213
