Overview
Siraj al-Din 'Abd al-Latif b. Ahmad al-Fayyumi the Shafi'i, resident of Aleppo; he held the judgeship of the army there, was removed, then held teaching at the Zahiriyya until it was contested over him; he taught Qur'an in the mihrab of the Great Mosque and gave the mi'ad lesson after dawn prayer in the Hanbali mihrab — proficient in the law of inheritance, a sharer in other fields, with verse and prose to his name. 1
His murder
When al-Ta'i presented him with verse and prose he gave him licence; then he left Aleppo bound for Cairo, and at Khan Ghabaghib he was found murdered, his blood unavenged — as his son 'Umar, the army's qadi, had been killed in the very same spot a year before. 1
