Summary

Yazid ibn Amir ibn Hadida ibn Ghanm ibn Sawad ibn Ka'b ibn Salama al-Ansari al-Khazraji, Abu al-Mundhir, counted by Ibn Ishaq among the men of the Aqaba pledge; he later sided with Ali in his wars, which put him in charge of Ali's guard and then of districts in Isfahan, Rayy and Hamadan 1.

His entry in al-Isaba

Ibn Hajar writes in al-Isaba: Yazid ibn Amir ibn Hadida ibn Ghanm ibn Sawad ibn Ka'b ibn Salama al-Ansari al-Khazraji, Abu al-Mundhir — Ibn Ishaq counted him among the people of Aqaba 1. He was then with Ali in his wars, so Ali put him in charge of his guard, and afterwards appointed him over Isfahan, Rayy and Hamadan 1. He transmitted from Mu'adh, Ibn Mas'ud and others, and Abu Idris al-Khawlani, Atiyya ibn Qays, Abu Qilaba and Ma'bad al-Juhani transmitted from him 1.

What the Isaba text conveys

The entry presents a Khazraji who gave the pledge at Aqaba, then appears in the later conflicts on Ali's side — first commanding his guard, then holding offices in Isfahan, Rayy and Hamadan; it also makes him a transmitter from Mu'adh ibn Jabal and Ibn Mas'ud, with a generation of Successors narrating from him 1.

For younger visitors

Yazid ibn Amir was a Companion of Khazraj who witnessed the pledge of Aqaba; in the time of Ali he led his guard and governed several districts, and he narrated knowledge from senior Companions.
