Overview

Al-Nawawi's Forty Hadith (d. 676 AH). Hajji Khalifa records that al-Nawawi took Ibn al-Salah's twenty-nine 'comprehensive' hadiths and completed them to forty-two, naming the collection al-Arba'un — 'and it became famous'; scholars said Islam itself turns upon it. Mostly sound hadiths of the two Sahihs, isnads suppressed, with an appendix on obscure wording; among its many commentaries is Ibn Rajab's Jami' al-'Ulum wal-Hikam 1.
