Overview
The mausoleum of Imam Muhammad ibn Idris al-Shafi'i in the Qarafa of Cairo. Al-Maqrizi says that Saladin built a madrasa beside his grave and endowed it with the island of Fil 1.
The Nasiriyya madrasa
Al-Maqrizi says that the Nasiriyya madrasa in the Qarafa, beside the dome of Imam al-Shafi'i, was built by Sultan al-Malik al-Nasir Salah al-Din Yusuf ibn Ayyub, who appointed a teacher there of the Shafi'i fiqh 2.
The mosque beside it
A small mosque stood beside al-Shafi'i's tomb. When Salah al-Din built the madrasa beside his grave, al-Malik al-Kamil Muhammad ibn al-Adil enlarged the mosque, set a pulpit in it, and the Friday prayer was held there in 607 AH 3.
