Summary
Şahmelek Pasha Camii, directly across the road from Gazi Mihal's bath, is a single-unit mosque built in 1428; its founder Şahmelek Pasha, a blind man, took part in the succession war between Beyazit I's sons and was an important figure under Mehmet I and Murat II 1.
Form
Instead of a porch it has a two-bayed vestibule with doorways at either end; the south-east minaret appears a nineteenth-century replacement, the square prayer room is domed on squinches, and the founder lies in a simple open türbe abutting the north-east corner 2.
For young visitors
A mosque built in 1428 by a blind vezir — whose simple open tomb still hugs its corner.
